Collaboration with MIAD explores development of Pick Nature Preserve
The Pick Property, a 56-acre estate-like setting which includes Joan Pick’s former home and a caretakers residence, was given to CLCF with the understanding we would develop our office and a Nature Preserve on the site as a memorial to Ms. Pick and to further our educational mission.
The Pick Trust also gave CLCF a generous grant to work with the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) as part of a student Green Studio project to explore and develop ideas for possible use of the site as a Nature Center.
MIAD Professor Eric Vogel and his students have come up with fresh and creative ways to look at the site and to look at possibilities for us to further the educational aspect of the mission of CLCF.
We have asked the students at MIAD to use the “Land Ethic” as developed by Aldo Leopold as a centerpiece philosophy in this approach. As this develops the CLCF Board of Directors and Pick committee will respond and give feedback to this process to assist the MIAD team. This will set the tone for the next 40 years and we can be successful in all four areas of our mission.
