Little Cedar Lake Kayak Tour
On the morning of Saturday, June 1, 2019, the Community Relations Committee hosted a Dam History presentation and Kayak Tour at the historic Harns Ward Lodge on Little Cedar Lake. Thirty-three curious and adventurous souls braved a thunderstorm’s rumbling and came out to learn about lake management on Big and Little Cedar Lakes. Twenty of them paddled south to the dam where water from Little Cedar Lake runs into Cedar Creek.
The tour passed the site of the former historic Federle Resort, Ackerman’s Grove County Park, and Little Cedar Lake’s very small island on the way to the dam. On the return trip, the group could see north toward a beautiful view of the Little Cedar kettle and the CLCF protected wetlands.
Did you know that the Railroad Commission of Wisconsin established mandated water levels for BCL in 1931 and that those mandated levels stand to this day? Currently, the CLCF owns the Big Cedar Lake dam, and the Little Cedar Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District owns the LCL dam.
Many thanks to all the members of the Community Relations Committee for organizing this free event and providing kayaks and life vests and donuts. What a great way to get a better understanding and appreciation for Little Cedar Lake and the beautiful Cedar Lakes watershed!
